Me Wants It: Morfium Couture Fall/Winter 2011

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that most of you probably haven’t heard of Morfium Couture.  I doubt that I would be familiar with Morfium if it wasn’t for the fact that it is a Serbian fashion label – one of the few I absolutely LOVE. (Note: For those of you that aren’t aware – I am Serbian).

Morfium was established in 2004 and is based out of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.  The name is derived from the Greek God Morpheus, known as the “Shaper of Dreams”, and is dedicated to the The Muses and the melting pot of cultures found in the Balkans.  Season after season, designer Jelena Malesevic expertly melds textures and colors to create an exotic, luxurious and unique line that just begs to be worn.

In addition, the ad campaigns can be almost startling in their beauty.  The images, lensed by photographer Dusan Jaukovic, are artistic, edgy, cinematic, dramatic, exotic and freshMetropolis, which was released earlier this year, is one of my favorites to date.

The newest campaign, Solar Noon, doesn’t disappoint.  I want to share a few of my favorite images/pieces from the collection first but you can view the ad campaign in its entirety via the slideshow below.

Let’s start with this gorgeous ruffled print maxi dress.  I love everything about this.  The colors, the cut, the draping… it is my absolute favorite piece this collection.

Next up is the hand-dyed chiffon silk maxi-skirt in this shot.  The jacket isn’t really my style, but the skirt?  I am quite taken with it… there is something extremely sexy about those layers.

Then, of course, there is this draped and ruffled jersey-silk maxi dress.  I think it’s safe to say that this is probably the star of the current collection.  It comes in black too, but I love this particular shade of red and the draping is amazing.

Finally, I can’t get over this dress.  I love the contrast of the sweet polka-dots and ruffled sleeves with the sexy cut and asymmetrical hem.  I don’t usually wear polka-dots, but I love this.  And its such a different take from the polka dots we have been seeing this season.

Those are by far my favorite pieces, but the others are just as striking:

Where you familiar with Morfium?  What do you think of Solar Noon?  Which are your favorite pieces?

I’m sold on this fascinating collection. I’ve never heard of this brand as well. I absolutely love the aquatic colours in the first dress, it’s so beautiful. The hand-dyed chiffon skirt is also breathtaking!

Ooh, love this! That eggplant color in the fourth and fifth shots in the slideshow, that’s so luxe. And the first is gorgeous, love those colors. Thanks for sharing – I’m always keen on learning about other designers, especially international ones. You, Djokovic, Morfium… there’s a whole lotta good-looking things coming out of Serbia! Good to know!

I have never heard of the before but the polka dot dress is my favorite. Polka dots are very hard to make sexy, and not sugary sweet.

Very beautiful pieces— love the drama. But I will still contest that you are the best thing (person!) to come out of Serbia 🙂
