aquí– squash blossom: I am excited to share that this is the first of two submissions by Link Love newcomer Jamillah of made-to-travel. “I was so touched by… how Sara shows love to her New Mexican roots by wearing her grandmother’s squash blossom necklaces,” she said. aquí is a new blog to me and I was thrilled that Jamillah decided to share this with us!
Beautifully Invisible – 10 Things about your Blog that Drive Me Crazy: I not only have to thank Heather of Style Confessions for officially submitting this post, but all of the other wonderful people who have praised and shared it. I am still a bit stunned at the response, but it appears that my “pet peeves” are shared by many, many others. Heather found the post to be great advice. “I wish everyone would read it,” she said. Thank you Heather, and thank you to everyone who has commented and shared this one!
Beauty Redefined – Porn & Pop Culture: A Deadly Combination: The weekly link Love Roundup isn’t complete without a bit of controversy. “This is a well-researched and provocative post. It brings to our attention how dulled our culture has become to pervasiveness of pornography in our daily lives… and YES, this is related to fashion,” says Terri of RAGS against the MACHINE. “The comments are especially interesting and include people from all walks of life.” What are your thoughts on this subject?
Black Hockey Jesus – Neil: This was a last minute entry by Carolann of Wonderpug Graphics and is more about the blog than a specific post. “So, I just discovered this ‘new to me’ male/daddy blogger. It is not really fashion based but he is such a feel good real man – I HAD TO SHARE! ,” said Carolann. “I love the first story on the page ‘Neil’ and then ‘Talking to Bikes’ warmed my heart for a solids three hours. Read him.” Do as she says, people. 🙂
The Blog Stylist – The 7 Reasons I’m Never Going to Comment on Your Blog: The Blog Stylist is a must-read for anyone who is serious about blogging. Bree consistently publishes engaging, witty, and informative posts that prove helpful to even the most-seasoned bloggers. “[This post] is the perfect follow up reading for Ashe Mischief’s IFB piece on responding to the Follow Me/Follow you method of gaining followers,” says Bella of The Citizen Rosebud. “As blogging evolves and grows, it seems we bloggers are learning some better ways to take part in the conversation.”
the Fashion Bomb – 5 Must See Fashion Documentaries: How do you feel about documentaries that focus on fashion? Cate of inkblot*photography is definitely a fan. “Images are so instrumental in the fashion industry, but we’ve only recently seen a concentrated effort in converting fashion to film,” said Cate. “I’ve seen some of these movies already, but I’m definitely going to see the rest.”
Heidi Hastings’ Blog– So you Wanna Look Like… Moulin Rouge?!: If you aren’t familiar with Heidi Hastings’ Blog, this post will blow you away. “She turned her friend into Nicole Kidman’s character from Moulin Rouge for a makeover,” says Bobbie from Confessions of a Couture Junkie. “It was amazing and Heidi does such great photography.” I have no doubt you’ll want to check out her other posts as soon as you see this!
Joanne Faith – The 5 Essential Skills of Fashion Blogging: My selection this week focuses on the art of blogging itself. Here Joanne takes a look at the skills necessary to be a successful and competent fashion blogger. Do you fit the bill?
MIS PAPELICOS – Blog 1st Birthday: The sentiment in this post touched many hearts so it is no surprise that two different people submitted it for inclusion this week.
“The imagery and inspiration here choked me up, and I’m not often choked up by style blogs,” said Sarah of Cloud of Secrets. She wrote to Sacramento: “I want to be one of the women you describe. I haven’t felt the “wings within” for a very long time … but I think I feel wings shifting now, after reading your tale.”
Anika of By Anika found herself equally moved. “This woman is all soul and she touches me so.”
Mode Plus –FTF: Contra Unus: Anika’s second submission this week is another great pick. “I loved reading about Nefferths background from the isle of Curacao,” shares Anika. “Nefferth shared that she feels a strong connection to the moving and powerful story of her ancestors. This woman has style, class and heart. I love it.”
Rogue Roots –social suicide by sweatpants and dressing for the life you want: “This is how you write something that might offend people in a very non-offensive, amusing way,” says Heather of Style Confessions. “If I could write even a tiny bit as well as she does I would be happy.” Ditto. Read it – I guarantee you’ll love it!
The Well-Appointed Catwalk – My Style Lineage: A FTF Blog Event: Jamillah’s second submission to Link Love is another wonderful post. “My Style Lineage” is a moving tribute to the legacy of fashionable women who inspired her. As Jamillah puts it: “I was so touched by how Marissa is carrying on a legacy of stylish women.” I know you will be as well.
