Link Roundup

LINK LOVE with a TWIST, March 14, 2011

Amazing Photography.  Motherhood.  Time Management.  Influence.  Words of wisdom.  Moments of pause.  Only in the world of blogging can you find such an amazing variety of topics authored by an equally amazing group of women.  Read these posts – and more – below!

*********

Barbro Anderson – We are all animals:  Some of my favorite submissions to LINK LOVE to date have been photographic images.  This outstanding selection by the lovely Casee Marie of The Girl Who Stole the Eiffel Tower is no exception.  “This amazing set of photographs Barbro shared really captivated me and reminded me how important art is and the way it can move, entertain and inspire us,” said Casee . “I also loved the concept of overlaying two focuses, animals and fashion, which could be taken to be mean so many different things. I thought it was fascinating to consider the message behind it.”

Daily clothes fix – School of thought: We are each drawn to specific colors, are we not?  The bright palette of this post caught the attention of Franca of Oranges and Apples.  She included this as one of her LINK LOVE picks this week “just because I really love all the bright colours in these photos and the outfit.”

The Fabulous Life of Not-so-Rich and Infamous – Happiness is a State of Mind:  I decided to include this post as a personal submission because it is the perfect testament to why I love Tanvi, and her blog, so much.  Not only is she beautiful, she also has an unbelievable talent for imparting words of wisdom to her followers.  I love how she incorporates her thoughts on happiness into this outfit post.  Her words – and her look – certainly made me happy!

For Those About to Shop – The mother of all roles:  Bella Q of The Citizen Rosebud says it all: “There has been a deluge of great posts lately, which makes it hard in a good way to choose, but Laura of For Those About To Shop, who really should be given tenure on this [LINK LOVE] list, hit it out of the proverbial with this post. In it she reclaims motherhood as the ultimate of feminists acts. I couldn’t agree more.”

Grit and Glamour – KloutWhat it is and Why it Matters:  There is no denying that Casee Marie’s second submission was one of the best posts to hit the blogosphere last week.  Vahni’s words got everyone buzzing about Klout!  “With this post V educates us on the ways we can measure the weight of our voice on the internet with Klout, but she also goes beyond that to acquaint us more intimately with the relevance of Klout itself,” says Casee.  “She gives us facts, statistics, tips, all manner of information that proves itself invaluable as we strive to better understand our impact as bloggers. And she did all that without confusing me once, so clearly the post was masterfully written.” I couldn’t agree more!

interrobangs anonymous – FFB: Millie’s Take on Modesty : Of her second submission, Franca of Oranges and Apples says: “I’m submitting this because it’s a really thoughtful exploration of all the different things that modesty can mean and why it might be a controversial topic. Great discussion in the comments too!”

Joanne Faith – How to Tame Your Blog with an Editorial Calendar:  Joanne is quickly becoming one of my favorite resources for blog improvement tips.  This wonderfully written post examines the benefits of utilizing an editorial calendar.   I decided to submit this post because she breaks down the process and provides some invaluable links to those interested.  But that isn’t all.  She also shares how an editorial calendar helped her overcome some of her own struggles as  blogger.

lifeanditsotherdrugs – More about me:  I love this submission by B.J. of Confessions of a Couture Junkie.   “[Steph] pledged to experience more about life in an Eat , Pray, Love sort of way and also opened up more about herself in the process,” said B.J.

Modly Chic – How to Blog More Often Without More Time:  This post goes hand in hand with the one by Joanne Faith mentioned above.  Time management is something that almost every single blogger will struggle with at some point.   I decided to include this post because Katy Rose tackled the subject quite well and offered some great pointers that work almost as well as magically finding an extra hour a day to blog!

re-mix-her – Daily: A Healthy Obsession: This selection comes from Alex Elizabeth of Delayed Missives. Alex said: “I want to submit [this post] because it’s always good to hear about responsible shopping habits. Caitlin also proves that it’s possible to be fashionable and develop your personal style even on a tight budget!”

Street Style: Pics by Polka Dot – Prayer:  As passionate as we each may be about fashion, feminism and/or blog improvement, no one can argue that there are more important things in life.  The devastating earthquake and tsunami that has affected the people of Japan reminds us that there is so much more to life and that we should treasure every moment we have with our loved ones.  I hope you’ll forgive the excess personal submissions this week, but I had to share this amazing post by Jill because it reminds us of that.

Those Graces – Feminist Baby Conumdrum: The Natalie Portman Edition: Bella Q’s second submission of the week was another of my personal favorites as well.  Bella says: “Along the same lines as my previous submission, the astute Feminista, Courtney of Those Graces, brings the same message to the media in her calling out the “Feminist” media who criticized Natalie Portman’s recent public statement about motherhood being her greatest role. Courtney, as well as Laura are right to remind us that to be fully empowered as women, we can include our entire oeuvre of being.”

Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit their favorite post of the week!

Thank you so much for mentioning my post on motherhood here. I was worried people wouldn’t like it and it’s gotten such a good response! I’m glad you quoted Bella of Citizen Rosebud because she’s been one of my most generous supporters.

Same with me.. thank you for including mine, I’m really touched – it was such a simple post, too – and now I’m making my way through all the lovely posts. So far I’ve been reading Vahni’s so long I’m behind on what I meant to do today.. and now I want to join Klout. This is so generously spirited of you (is that a phrase?) – and I don’t even know your real name but you have such a huge heart – and a keen mind. Which are the qualities of all beautiful women, visible or not.

    Hope you’re well. xo

How nice of you to say! I was going crazy because I had an anti-spam plugin that was preventing comments, which is why I was so confused that there wasn’t a bigger response. That being said, thanks so much for reading 🙂

You really don’t know how much this series lifts my spirits. Quite a few posts in here that I haven’t read yet, and some I meant to check out last week but never got to. I love the diversity of subjects this week – and I quite enjoy seeing your personal selections as well. We (your readers) are obviously quite inspired by you so getting to see which specific posts inspired you is a delight. Keep it up, B!

Thank you for the kind words Casee! The unbelievable talent that can be found in the fashion blogosphere inspires me every day, so the least I can do is compile and share these every week. Thank YOU for being such a supporter of this site, AND this feature. XOXO

Great list as always, and it’s nice to see some old friends but not part of our tribe per se on the list. Jill Adams of Street Style Polka Dots is an amazing photographer, but what made me love her so long ago is her heartfelt and real prose. Nice to see her on the list. And Barbro, who is one of my all time faves is such an inspiration- I am happy to see her up there as well!

I first was introduced to Jill with that unfortunate ELLE Spain incident, and although I am sorry that had to happen to her, I’ll always be grateful that I “met” her that day. She is a real talent. Same is true of Barbro, who I was actually introduced to through YOU, my dear. I agree that it is really nice to have them both in this week’s roundup. 2 women of their immense talent certainly deserve the accolades!
