Photoshoot: Julija Steponaviciute for Numéro China #5, January/February 2011

It’s been a while since an editorial caught my eye simply because I was drawn to the fashion featured in it.

Not the controversy.

Not the relationship to Tom Ford.

Not particularly breathtaking or haunting imagery…  just a pure, unadulterated appreciation of the styling and fashions themselves.

Yes, it had been quite some time since and editorial turned my head for that purpose. Yet that is exactly what happened when I saw these:

Gorgeous, right?

Photographer Chad Pitman captured these stunning shots of Julija Steponaviciute for Numéro China #5 (January/February 2011).   The editorial, simply entitled “Blue Moon” is one of my favorites so far in 2011.

Check out the styling by Charles Varenne:  Burberry Prorsum. Louis Vuitton, Alexis Bittar, Balmain, Fendi, Cavalli, and Christian Louboutin, to name a few.  He did such a phenomenal job with this shoot that I don’t know if I could ever pick a favorite look.

Look at this necklace… and those studded Loubs…

I even love her manicure!

Which is your favorite look?

Oh, these are fantastic. I love how the clothes are such a focus. Even though I love editorials with a lot of rich detail it’s always important for the fashion to play the most major part, you know? I think the first is my favorite – I’m in love with that studded jacket! – but oh, look at the spiked Louboutins. I just can’t handle it!

I think you and I generally have very similar taste in editorials, We tend to be attracted to images that are dramatic, whimsical or artsy… all of which is wonderful. But as you said, the fashion sometimes can get lost in all that detail. I love the composition of these shots and really was impressed that the photographer still managed to retain the focus on the clothing.

I think the first shot is my favorite too… I love all of the pieces she is wearing!

oh my god! you are so right about this. the fashion is stunning. i mean so is the photography and the lighting and the model… but it is the clothing that speaks loudest and you are right to point out that it’s been awhile since an editorial has done that. i feel like so often the pieces used in editorials are kind of vague and styled in a way that you can’t even really tell what they are or how they’re being used. it’s kind of hard to explain so i’m not sure if you even get what i mean, but my point is just that this editorial is refreshing.

also, on a completely different note, i really want to commend you and your blogging skills. one of the things i adore is that you can make your blog *so* personal, and give us such a great idea of who you are, and yet you are anonymous. so many people can’t even do that when they’re sharing actual pictures of themselves. this is a topic i’m discussing in my upcoming blog post so it’s just been on my mind lately and i wanted to share that with you.

Oh my god the studded Loubitons.. drool worthy! My favourite picture is probably the second one, it makes her look so vulnerable. The photographer is very talented.

I have to say, I love all these images and looks, the thing that got me aside from the styling, is the dual tone throughout the shoot. Love the cyan and black vibe!

The first one by far is my absolute favorite! Between the blue eyeshadow (I’m a sucker for dramatic eye makeup), the totally fab jacket, and super chic white pants – that has me written all over it!!
