The difference photography makes…

Behold: The I Do Dress, from ModCloth.

It’s cute.  It’s a wedding dress.  It’s $895.

The description makes it sounds absolutely glorious, and I am sure it is, but it doesn’t come through in these photos.

Earlier today I came across these images on the cherry blossom girl’s blog.

These images are stunning.  They radiate elegance and beauty.  They simply ooze “wedding” to me.  They make me want to purchase something very expensive from Maria Lucia Hohan’s Atelier.  And they aren’t even real product shots.

This, however, does not make me want to spend $895:

I’m not saying the dress isn’t beautiful – I just don’t think the photography does it justice.  What do you think?  Does the photography matter in this case?

I think the Modcloth dress is very pretty, and much prettier than the others shown, which remind me more of Miss Havisham and her room, than a beautiful event like a wedding. i think it is because as Casee Marie puts it- the Modcloth dress is not a traditional wedding colour for Westerners. I am an Asian, for me red and gold is the traditional wedding colour, so i am more attracted to it.

That is exactly what I thought. I love ModCloth as well – but if you are going to sell a wedding dress the photography needs to evoke the elegance and beauty of the dress. I don't feel it does that at ALL on the ModCloth page. In fact, when I first saw the dress I thought it was just a summer dress. Then I saw the price and realized something was up!

I definitely don't think the photography does the dress justice for the price tag. And it's definitely not a traditional wedding dress. I adore ModCloth, but I would definitely choose one of the dresses in the Cherry Blossom Girl photos first. Those are so stunning.
